The Benefits of Massage During Pregnancy
Being pregnant can make you feel elated and on top of the world and some of us sail through it. For others, it can be a jolly hard slog! Don’t get me wrong, pregnancy is a truly magical time, which we should never take for granted, but, for some, it’s nine long months of sciatic pain, swollen feet, nausea, heartburn, insomnia, not to mention, the horrific, jump-out-of-bed-like-you’ve-been-shot, calf cramp! But do you know what …. It’s ok to admit you’re suffering.
Fortunately, there are things we can do to help alleviate the stresses and strains of growing little humans, and having a massage is one of them. Massage boosts more than your circulation but your morale and self-esteem too. Massage therapy positively influences your overall health and well-being. It can be both stimulating and sedating as well as providing pain relief.
The benefits from massage therapy during pregnancy include;
Reducing swelling in hands, feet and ankles.
Easing muscular discomfort in your lower back and neck.
Lessening sciatic pain.
Relaxing tense muscle.
Helping to increase flexibility and range of movement.
Relieving migraine and headaches (not associated with blood pressure).
Alleviating carpal tunnel syndrome.
Helping with relaxation which in turn can decrease insomnia.
Increasing blood and lymph flow which can help increase the elimination of toxins, which can also help with fatigue as well as improving the immune system.
Stimulating the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers, into the brain and nervous system.
Helping to relieve anxiety or depression.
If you’re feeling a little anxious or nervous or don’t really relish the idea of being touched, don’t worry as during the treatment, towels will be used to cover you, keeping you warm and only the area being worked on will be exposed. Also, I don’t care about stretch marks, or swollen ankles, hairy legs or non-pedicured feet. I care about making you feel better and making the next how-ever-many months of pregnancy you have left, more manageable, even enjoyable.
